Psychological Testing

At Christian Psychological Associates, we understand how difficult it can be to face unanswered questions about emotional, cognitive, or behavioral challenges. Whether you’re a parent seeking answers for your child, a student struggling to keep up in school, or an adult navigating mental health concerns, psychological testing can provide the clarity and direction you need.

What is Psychological Testing?

Psychological testing is a structured, professional assessment process designed to better understand an individual’s emotional functioning, cognitive strengths and weaknesses, learning style, and behavioral patterns. Through the use of evidence-based tools—including interviews, questionnaires, and standardized tests—our licensed psychologists gather comprehensive information that supports accurate diagnosis and meaningful recommendations.

Each evaluation is carefully tailored to the individual, with the goal of answering specific referral questions such as:

  • Why is my child having difficulty in school?
  • Could I have ADHD, a learning disability, or autism?
  • Are my symptoms consistent with anxiety, depression, or trauma?
  • What supports or accommodations might help me function better at home, work, or school?

More than just test results, our assessments aim to uncover the “why” behind the challenges you or your loved one are experiencing—and offer a clear, compassionate roadmap for healing and growth.

We view each person through a holistic lens that honors their unique story, values, and needs. Whether testing is being pursued for diagnostic clarity, treatment planning, school support, or personal understanding, we are here to guide you through the process with care and professionalism.

The Testing Process

At Christian Psychological Associates, we aim to make the testing process as clear and supportive as possible. Whether you're seeking answers for yourself or a loved one, our team is here to guide you every step of the way.

Getting Started

Clients may reach out directly or be referred by a counselor, doctor, or school. After we receive your completed intake paperwork, our New Patients Care Coordinator will:

  • Verify mental health coverage with your insurance
  • Match you with the appropriate testing provider
  • Contact you to schedule your initial intake appointment

Intake Appointment

This 60-minute session allows the psychologist to gather background information, clarify your concerns, and determine the appropriate testing approach.

  • During the initial appointment, the provider reviews the testing process and mutually sign this agreement.
  • The provider then gives you your first testing appointment.

Financial Coordination

Following the initial appointment:

  • The provider creates a personalized assessment plan based on your individualized needs.
  • Our Testing Coordinator verifies detailed insurance benefits and prepares a cost estimate, which includes any required deposit and a testing service fee.
  • The estimate and testing service fee disclosure forms are sent to you for review.

To move forward, the client must:

  • Review and sign the estimate and testing service fee disclosure
  • Pay any required deposit and the testing service fee

Please note: Payment is required before testing to avoid cancellation. Digital questionnaires may also be sent during this stage.

Testing Sessions

Testing may include:

  • In-person assessments
  • Computer-based tasks and paper forms
  • Online rating scales (may be completed by the client, caregivers, teachers, or others)

Once all testing components are submitted, a feedback session is scheduled—typically two weeks later.

Feedback & Results

During this follow-up appointment, the testing provider will:

  • Review test results and any diagnoses
  • Provide tailored recommendations
  • Answer your questions and outline the next steps

Final Report

You will receive a comprehensive written report that summarizes the findings and recommendations. This report can be shared with schools, providers, or other support systems as needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at home@christianpsychological.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Psychological testing refers to a structured evaluation process that uses standardized tools to assess various areas of functioning—such as intelligence, academic achievement, memory, attention, emotional well-being, and behavior. These assessments help clarify diagnoses and provide concrete recommendations for treatment, support, or accommodations.

The out-of-pocket cost for psychological testing without insurance typically ranges from $2,000 to $4,000, though this amount can increase depending on the individual's needs and the scope of the evaluation. If using insurance, coverage and costs vary based on your plan. Once your intake paperwork is submitted, we will verify your benefits and provide an estimate of any out-of-pocket expenses.

Psychological testing can be beneficial for people of all ages. We frequently evaluate:

  • Children and teens with academic, behavioral, emotional, or developmental concerns
  • College students seeking clarity around attention, learning, or emotional regulation
  • Adults with ongoing mood, personality, or cognitive concerns
  • Older adults experiencing memory loss or age-related changes

Our evaluations can help clarify or identify:

  • ADHD
  • Learning disorders (e.g., dyslexia, dyscalculia)
  • Developmental disorders
  • Autism spectrum disorders
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Mood and personality disorders
  • Cognitive impairments (e.g., dementia, traumatic brain injury)
  • Eligibility for academic or workplace accommodations

Yes. In addition to those listed above, we also provide:

  • Disability Evaluations for Social Security (SSDI)
  • Court-Referred Juvenile Evaluations (Peoria County and Surrounding Areas)
  • Psychological Testing for Residential or Treatment Facilities
  • Veteran Evaluations (VA-Authorized and Private Referrals)

Our process typically includes:

  • Initial intake interview to understand your concerns and history
  • Testing sessions, which may take place over one or more appointments
  • Scoring and interpretation by a licensed psychologist
  • Feedback session to review results, diagnosis (if applicable), and recommendations
  • A comprehensive written report you can share with medical providers, schools, or other professionals

Testing time varies depending on the referral question. Most evaluations involve 4 to 8 hours of face-to-face testing, often spread over multiple sessions. The full process—including scoring, interpretation, report writing, and feedback—can take 2 to 4 weeks from the first appointment.

Coverage for psychological testing varies by insurance plan and depends on both the services provided and the diagnosis codes used.

At Christian Psychological Associates, we understand the importance of financial transparency. However, please note that we are unable to verify specific testing benefits until after the initial appointment. This is because:

  • The type and extent of testing can only be determined once the evaluating      clinician has met with you and identified your specific concerns.
  • Insurance coverage often depends on the diagnosis codes, which are established after the initial clinical interview.

Once the intake session is complete and the testing plan is developed, we will verify your insurance benefits based on the recommended services and provide an estimate of any out-of-pocket costs. Please be aware that some testing—especially those related to educational or non-medical purposes—may not be covered by insurance.

We are happy to discuss general questions about your insurance plan during the intake process and offer private-pay rates when applicable.

In most cases, a referral is not required, unless your insurance plan mandates it. You are welcome to reach out directly to begin the intake process.

Before scheduling an appointment, we require completion of our intake paperwork, which includes demographic information, insurance details, and a description of your concerns. This allows us to assign the appropriate clinician and prepare for your assessment.

Yes. Our reports include detailed, evidence-based recommendations. When applicable, we provide documentation that can support applications for academic accommodations (e.g., IEP, 504 Plan, extended time) or workplace modifications.

We strive to make the testing process as comfortable and supportive as possible. While some tasks may feel challenging, there are no “pass or fail” scores. The goal is to better understand how you or your child functions—not to judge or label.

Yes. Schools often conduct their own evaluations, but private testing can provide a more comprehensive or quicker option. While our reports can be shared with schools to support IEPs, 504 Plans, or classroom accommodations, a clinical diagnosis does not guarantee a child qualifies for an IEP or 504 Plan.

Results help with diagnosis, treatment planning, educational placement, or documentation for accommodations (e.g., extended time on tests, therapy goals, medication needs). Reports are written in clear, user-friendly language and can be shared with other professionals upon request.

Yes. We offer assessments across the lifespan, including:

  • College students needing accommodation documentation
  • Adults experiencing difficulty with attention, memory, or mood
  • Older adults needing cognitive screening

Psychological testing is available at our Peoria, Eureka, Bloomington, and Palatine offices. We match patients with providers based on their needs, insurance, and location. We currently do not have testing providers in our Canton or Pekin locations.
